Dr. Adhemar William “Jim” Renuart III passed away peacefully at his home, on his farm in Granville County, on Wednesday August 19.

He was born in Miami on August 10, 1931 to Adhemar A. and Eileen Frances Renuart. Jim attended undergraduate and medical school at Duke University followed by residency in pediatric neurology. He worked at Duke and the Murdock Center in Butner before going into private practice at the Durham Clinic near the end of his career. He also served in the Air Force for two years stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Jim was well known for his love for his patients, his family and his farm animals. Due to his own health issues, he retired in 1977.

Jim is survived by his “bride” of 63 years Ruth Kimmel Renuart. He is also survived by 8 children: Lin Hill, Kim (and Wayne) Townsend, Adhemar “Jim” Renuart IV, Missy Renuart (and Tim West), Dean Renuart, Donna (and Ted) Roese, Jerry (and Kristy) Renuart and Andy Renuart, 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers and one sister. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Lynn Renuart and his grandson, Michael Townsend.

Jim always enjoyed the outdoors, having grown up hunting and fishing in the forests and waterways of southern Florida. An avid sports fan, he liked baseball and was a lifelong Yankees fan. He enjoyed golf even though it required a kind of patience and self-forgiveness he never quite developed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 25. Address is 3275 US-158 Bypass in Henderson, NC. A reception, hosted by the Altar Society, will be held after the service.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the St. James Catholic Church.

Kim,
I just read about your lost. I loved Dr. Renuart even though I had not seen him in years. He was my first employer after I graduated. I have many sweet memories of the days we worked together in the first lab at Murdock Center. May God comfort you and your family during this time and give you the peace that only He can give. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
